Lately I’ve switched Linux music players from XMMS to the new upstart iTunes clone Rhythmbox. Rhythmbox has grown up a lot since the last time I tried it, and its finally stable and fairly feature-complete. And the Rhythmlet plugin for gDesklets simply kicks ass.

But nobody ever bothered to write a command line remote control for it. So I wrote my own in a few lines of Python. Hopefully somebody else will find it useful.

Be warned. Its my first ever Python app, has no error checking whatsoever, and will probably replace all your MP3’s with Prince albums. It also only recognzies three commands - “next”, “back” and “playPause”, mostly since those are the only three buttons Rhythmbox has in the first place.

Go away already!

Would somebody please make The White Stripes go away now? They were supposed to be one-hit-wonders, but they’re still around, and they’re annoying the hell out of me.

Barsuk Records

While you’re at it, check out Barsuk Records. The Long Winters are on that label, along with a few other classics like They Might Be Giants, All-Time Quarterback, and Death Cab for Cutie.

And that dog is so freaking cool.

Update: John Vanderslice has a song titled Bill Gates Must Die. He kicks ass too.

The Long Winters

When I Pretend To FallI just got back from The Long Winters show at the Blind Pig.

Awesome show. Very much worth the $10 cover, plus the $3 service charge, and the $4 ordering charge. I ended up buying both their albums right there, so that says a lot.

I very much suggest you catch them before they get big, because these guys are good. They’ll be back through town later this year.

No way…

I just finally noticed that The Long Winters are coming to the Blind Pig next week. Now I need to find somebody to go with me.

And their website is valid XHTML. Ain’t that cute?
